Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Warriors Group
From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot including angels, demons, and dark forces expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.
The Warrior Group Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.
This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.
Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
First, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his own means, breaking into the secret base, attacking the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The antagonist then paid off his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
- The strong character and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- However, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the group enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The grateful character pledged a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and Wicander defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the family.
This leaves them few options but to travel to the northern region in quest for Casimir.
What’s Next?
Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Questers and Strategists tables.
Fans can look forward to learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
